Kaizen
is a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continually improving all
functions of a business, from manufacturing to management and from the
president to the assembly line workers. By improving standardized
activities and processes, Kaizen aims to eliminate waste and achieve
lean or optimal manufacturing.
G
& E Machine Works began a lean transformation with the Alabama
Technology Network in 2006 by completing the Lean Certificate
Series. G & E then set out to complete three Kaizen
events as
a part of the lean transformation. With the support of the ATN, G
& E
was able to successfully apply for and receive an IWTP Grant to help
pay
for its employees' training. During the week of February 5, 2007, G
& E successfully completed its second Kaizen event utilizing
the
tools learned in the Lean Certificate Series. Currently, the
ATN
is helping G & E to gain ISO 9000 certification.
